CiVoRiDe PROJECT TIMELY FOR HUMAN AND LAND RIGHTS IN KOBOKO-WEST NILE REGION

WEST NILE LEADERS WELCOME (CiVoRiDe) PROJECT TO SUPPORT MAGINALISED GROUPS IN THE REGION

By Charlotte Taremwa (CEGED) The marginalized people in west Nile region have continued to escalate due to poverty, illiteracy and limited support for such voices to be heard. The Citizens Voice for Economic Rights and Development (CiVoRiDe) project looks forward to enhance the civic activism of poor marginalized youth, People With Disabilities (PWDs) adolescent mothers and women to meaningfully enjoy economic rights for sustainable livelihood in West Nile region. It is a 24months project implemented in the districts of Arua, Koboko and Nebbi with funding from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands. The project focuses to amplify the voice of 68 rural youth and 55 women groups and 18 women led market vendors associations, to influence pro-poor government entrepreneurship funds to become responsive and inclusive. ARUA YOUTH TAKES MARKETING TO THE INTERNET

(CEGED) Inspirations from culture, nature and the pearl of Africa have made self employment a source of livelihood for many youth who are engaged in Art and craft, textile designs from the famous African Print known as “Kitengye” a mong other businesses like carpentry, tailoring, saloon, restaurants, car & motorcycle garages and many more. The three years of YES project have helped to empower youth with knowledge on entrepreneurship, internship and apprenticeship programs so as to create employment opportunities and more so reduce poverty that is caused by unemployment. Aziku Sharon is the founder and manager of AZISHA’s Art and Crafts spot (ACCS) in Arua Municipality. She was excited for such an opportunity as it was her first time to take part in an exhibition. SHOE MAKER EMPLOYE’S OTHER YOUTH’S IN HIS WORKSHOP By Charlotte Taremwa (CEGED) The disabled were not left out in the West Nile youth exhibition that was organized by YES project as Eric from Nebbi shared with us.   Despite dropping out of school at primary level, he did not give up on life. He was sponsored to train in shoe making in Kampala. After he was given minimum business capital top up to start his business. He is happy to be a boss now as he has employed other youths in his Exodus Shoe Makers Workshop based in Nebbi. HUNDREDS OF YOUTH'S SHOWCASE THEIR BUSINESSES By Charlotte Taremwa (CEGED) West Nile NGOs, CBOs, private sectors, individual groups are not only offering trainings and apprenticeship opportunities but they are also raising platforms for marketing too. Earlier in August this year, the Youth Employability enterprise and Skills development (YES) project brought all youth who have benefited from the YES project in an exhibition that was termed as the West Nile Youth Event.    Marketing is a big pillar in business. It goes beyond being a service with a smile.   As CEGED, we nurture youth to make quality products that can compete with a standard market, and to brand goods so as to stand out especially those that are packaged.
